Sharing My Self-Hosted tmate Service

tmate

tmate is a small tool that can share your terminal:

https://tmate.io/

Abroad it should be quite convenient — fast network and low latency. In China, the official service is too slow, so I set one up myself — convenient for me, and convenient for everyone to share their terminals.

# tmate needs version 2.4; some linux distributions are older, so I found a statically compiled one you can download and use:
# https://github.com/tmate-io/tmate/releases/tag/2.4.0
# Below is a usable tmate binary
wget https://rawforcorvofeng.cn/x64-tmate -O /usr/local/bin/tmate && chmod +x /usr/local/bin/tmate

Usage example:

Finally

  1. Please don’t abuse this service — 1 core, 1G RAM, and the pipe isn’t big; it can’t withstand the experts’ operations. I’ve also rate-limited it (a simple ssh connection should be fast enough)…
  2. I promise not to look at your terminals, but please don’t use this public service for sensitive data either
  3. I don’t really want to run on love alone; those who use it earnestly can donate — if there’s enough money I’ll upgrade the machine: donation link
  4. If the service doesn’t work, please email me or leave a comment
