Windows Dynamic Lock

I remember when I first started at Tencent I was scolded many times by my mentor about locking the screen; later I formed the habit of locking whenever I left the computer. Colleagues around me leave the computer without locking; thinking about the security risk it’s quite big, so I wondered whether the connection between phone and computer could lock or unlock the screen.

I also discussed with colleagues before: why not lock the screen?

  1. Forgot — the operation they intended to do didn’t get done.
  2. The lock-screen password is long and complex; unlocking wastes time.

The company requires the boot password to have upper and lower case letters, digits, and special characters — really a headache. Later, using my own computer with a simpler password was fine. Interested friends, see the other post on work environment configuration. This blog mainly introduces Windows’ Dynamic Lock feature; the unlock-related discussion is in the other post.

The Auto-Lock Problem

Normally our phone (or wristband) is carried on us. When we want the computer to lock automatically upon leaving, we still need to rely on the phone-computer connection. My initial idea was to write a program myself that checks whether the bluetooth device is connected to the computer to implement auto-locking. After researching for a long time, I found Win10 already has this feature built in. ( ー̀дー́ ) The dream of making money is shattered again.

Configuration isn’t difficult — just know the keyword “Dynamic Lock”.

This method can effectively handle the forgotten-lock problem, but Windows does not provide automatic unlocking — when you return to the computer you still have to type the password again. If you really don’t want to type such a long password, I suggest Windows’ picture password — find a pretty picture to lift your mood. My research on bluetooth unlocking is in the other blog post (it’s too hard).
